Montco Day Program Brings Disability Awareness to Local Day Care
In early December, several staff members from LifePath’s Montgomery County Day Services program took consumers Kathy, Holly and Diane to neighboring day care, New Life Child and Family Development Center. LifePath staff talked to the center’s preschool and pre-kindergarten classes about people with disabilities before engaging in a game of bowling. The children were eager to help Kathy, Holly and Diane bowl with a ramp. At the end of the program, the children started spontaneously singing Christmas carols to our consumers. The day was truly enjoyed by all!

Coach Dick Vermeil Motivates, Inspires Almost 600 Guests at Annual Thanksgiving Luncheon
Super Bowl and Rose Bowl championship-winning coach, Dick Vermeil motivated and inspired the almost 600 guests in attendance at the 12th Annual LifePath and PICPA (Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants) Thanksgiving Benefit and Awards Luncheon Wednesday, November 25, 2009. The event’s proceeds go directly toward enhancing LifePath’s programs and services for individuals with developmental disabilities, and will be used exclusively for costs which are not provided for by governmental funding. As of December 14, 2009, the event had grossed more than $116,000.
Coach Vermeil began his day with a tour of LifePath’s pediatric care facility, Ridge Crest in Sellersville where he had the opportunity to learn more about LifePath’s programs and services, as well as visit with staff and residents. As the grandfather of a young woman with special needs, Coach was especially touched by his experiences at the facility, referring to his tour of Ridge Crest often throughout the 45-minute presentation he supplied at the luncheon later that afternoon.
Coach’s presentation focused on his seven principles on how to be a leader, applying each of these steps to both LifePath and to his experience in the National Football League: 1. Make sure people know you care. 2. Strive to be a good example. 3. Create an atmosphere where people enjoy working. 4. Define your mission, delegate and lead. 5. Bring energy to the workplace. 6. Build relationships. 7. Be sincere.

Support LifePath by Purchasing Original Holiday Cards
Last month, LifePath Executive Director and CEO, Paul Coleman challenged LifePath staff and consumers to design artwork to be used as the cover for an original holiday greeting card. More than 20 submissions were received and after much deliberation, voters selected a fun snowman design by Nicole Plessl, a member of LifePath’s Sellersville adult day program staff. Nicole received a $100 gift card to her favorite store, Walmart as a thank you for permission to use her award-winning artwork.
The holiday cards are now available for pre-order. They measure 6.25” wide by 4.5” deep and feature the inside greeting "
Wishing you all the joys of this holiday season" in red lettering along with information about LifePath on the back. All proceeds from the sale of this card support LifePath’s programs and services for individuals of all ages with developmental disabilities. The cards come in packages of 8 with 8 white envelopes. These cards are perfect for friends, family, co-workers and customers. Bulk orders are being accepted.
The cost is $10 for a pack of 8 cards/envelopes. We will also be selling the cards at our 12th Annual Thanksgiving Benefit & Awards Luncheon November 25, 2009 and at LifePath’s administrative headquarters located at 3500 High Point Boulevard, Bethlehem as soon as they are available. Credit cards, cash and checks are accepted.
To pre-order your original LifePath holiday greeting cards, please contact Ann Marie Surovy at 484-893-5539, email amsurovy@lifepath.org, or download the order form (PDF) and send in your order and payment. We will update our website and Facebook page to let you know as soon as the cards are available for cash and carry or pick-up.
