LifePath Receives Red Cross Workplace Recognition Award

LifePath was honored with the "Workplace Recognition Award" at the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley's Awards Celebration and Annual Meeting September 18, 2007 at the Banana Factory in Bethlehem. The award is presented in recognition of an organization's or company's commitment to providing Red Cross lifesaving skills training to their employees.

LifePath's training department has provided CPR training to staff in the Lehigh Valley area since partnering with the local Red Cross in 1999. According to the Red Cross, this training has resulted in more than two individuals being trained every single day for eight years!

Wes Mousley, LifePath's Lehigh Behavior Training Specialist and Ann Marie Surovy, LifePath Public Relations and Development Coordinator, were on-hand to accept the award from Red Cross chairman, Bob McGovern; Red Cross CEO, John Hughes and Red Cross Health and Safety Services Director, Joy Zukauskas.

"Craft Ladies" to Hold Annual Christmas Shop to Benefit Ridge Crest

The Ridge Crest "Craft Ladies" will be holding their annual Christmas Shop craft fair Friday, October 5th from 10 am till 8 pm and Saturday, October 6th from 9 am till 1 pm at the First Savings Bank Glenwood branch located at 1129 N. 5th Street, Perkasie. The event will feature various crafts for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and everyday along with a raffle to win a quilted wall hanging, Lizzie High Doll or Christmas basket.

All proceeds from the event benefit LifePath's Ridge Crest pediatric facility in Sellersville for medically-fragile children.

The "Craft Ladies" were organized in 1986 by a group of volunteers who were interested in crafting as well as giving back to the community. The current twelve members range from 65 to 85 years in age. A unique feature of the group is that not one single lady has a family member with a developmental disability.

Since the group formed over 20 years ago, the Craft Ladies have donated $102,000 to LifePath. Their gifts have been used to purchase a variety of necessary items including a van, vacuum, dishwasher, emergency vehicle kits, nurses' equipment, a cardiac defibrillator, interior design services, macadam, etc.

The ladies received the Pennridge Chamber of Commerce Service Award in 2000 in recognition of their contributions to LifePath.

Annual Fire Safety Cookout

Each year, the Media office combines their annual fire safety training with a cookout. This year's event was held at Ridley Creek State Park. Associate Director Tina Gooden and House Supervisor Kelvin Delaine fired up the grills while House Supervisor Sheila Hammond set up a funnel cake station. Associate Director DJ Ron Lee provided the music. The relaxed day allowed everyone to come together for their all important training, but also to dance, play football and engage in a water balloon toss that proved wet for a number of staff! Associate Director Ken Leach conducted the annual fire safety training in groups during the picnic. By the end of the day, 98 staff and clients had received their annual fire safety training and fun was had by all.

First Presbyterian Church Youth Group Volunteers Time at Adult Day Program

On Thursday, July 5, 2007, approximately 20 junior and senior high school students from First Presbyterian Church in Allentown volunteered their time at LifePath's Lehigh adult day programs. Volunteers played games with residents, worked on art projects and assisted with jobs taking place inside the vocational workshop.

Members of LifePath's older adult day program enjoy a game of "food bingo" with their new friends.

It's not "puzzling" to see why LifePath's clients enjoy spending time with volunteers!

Former Philadelphia Phillies' Hall of Fame Third Baseman, Mike Schmidt to Be Keynote Speaker at Annual LifePath Luncheon

Mike Schmidt

Arguably one of the best third baseman to ever play the game, Michael Jack Schmidt will help celebrate the 10th anniversary of the LifePath/PICPA (Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants) Thanksgiving benefit and awards luncheon as the keynote speaker on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at the Holiday Inn Conference Center, Fogelsville, PA.

This annual event assists LifePath in raising much needed funds to help support its programs and services for individuals with developmental disabilities throughout the Lehigh Valley and southeastern Pennsylvania.

Schmidt played for the Philadelphia Phillies from 1972 through his retirement in 1989. A three-time National League Most Valuable Player, 12-time All-Star, 10-time Gold Glove recipient and one of the "Sporting News'" players of the decade for the 1980s, Schmidt was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995, receiving 96.5% of the votes.

The cost to attend the luncheon is $85 per person or $850 per table of ten. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Schmidt will be available to meet with guests, signing copies of his recent book and posing for photographs from 11am till 12pm prior to the event. No outside memorabilia will be permitted, but cameras are welcome.

For more information on how to be a part of this exciting event, please call Public Relations and Development Coordinator Ann Marie Surovy at 484-893-5539 or e-mail amsurovy@lifepath.org.
